WORK IN PROGRESS

TO THE NORTH, 2017-

At the age of seven, Samaa and Iris become best friends when they end up in the same asylum center. The film follows them over ten years, from their early days in Sweden to their teenage years in different parts of the country and into adulthood. Themes of escape and exclusion are intertwined with TikTok dances and banter about “disgusting” teachers. With a generous dose of humor, the film provides insight into what it is like to grow up as a girl between two cultures in today’s Sweden.

The film is expected to premiere in 2028.
